4 x 4 Safari
The ultimate challenge for the ultimate few!
|
 |
 |
The Camel Trophy is recognised worldwide as the greatest off-road
challenge to man and machine and covers some of the most remote locations
of the world. Guyana was chosen to host the Camel Trophy in 1992.
|
| There are few destinations on earth which can offer such diversity of
landscape and raw beauty which inspires the explorer in each of us. |
 |
This
extraordinary safari retracing part of the Camel Trophy trail was designed along
this concept. Explore this fascinating environment during an exciting seven day
journey through savannahs and virgin rainforest teeming with flora, fauna and
birdlife. Camp in the rainforest and enjoy the creature comforts of Rock View
Lodge. |
| Our journey continues to Karanambo Ranch, home to giant river otters, black
caiman and the Arapaima - the world's largest freshwater fish. At Karanambo you
can go fishing in Simoni Pond which offers Guyana's best fishing opportunities
or go swimming with the otters. |

Next you are afforded the unique opportunity to
experience authentic village life in Amerindian communities such as Nappi
Village before continuing on to Pirara Ranch, home to working cowboys who are
Indians and the chance to join them on horseback riding and cattle roundup.
Return to Georgetown by aircraft.

A shorter Safari to Dubulay Ranch in the Takama Savannahs offers all the
attrations of the Rupununi.

An exciting ride from Georgetown to Dubulay Ranch takes you
through bauxite mines, lowland rainforest and finally into the savannahs.
There are sightings of armadillos, anteaters, deer, monkey, pumas, tapirs,
savannah foxes and parrots. The three different natural habitats in and around
the ranch are home to 350 different species of birds and eight species of
monkey making this a prime destination for researchers and scientists from the
Smithsonian Institute who have been regular guests for a number of years. New
species of fish have yet to be identified in the many streams.
Creek-snorkeling to view 17th Century Dutch relics is optional. Other
Activities include boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking, night-lamping (spotting
wildlife at night) and excellent horseback riding.
