Resort to the Rainforest
Get a feel for Georgetown before escaping to enjoy the rainforest and rivers
at Guyana's interior Resorts.
Experience Georgetown's hustle and bustle, the colour of
it's markets and a brief insight into Guyana's history and culture during your
city tour. Timberhead Rain Forest Resort and Shanklands Rainforest Resort
offer an interesting contrast to the city with a variety of forest and river
activities and the opportunity to simply relax in tranquil surroundings.
Rainforest nature walks, bird watching, canoeing and swimming are all
possibilities. Both resorts have an individual feel - you will enjoy their
differences and the welcoming hospitality which is common to both.
| Your journey to Timberhead takes you through rivers and
creeks which wind prettily through overhanging rainforest trees. The
Amerindian crafted lodges are perched atop a sandy hill with views of the
savannah and the river below while the rainforest provides a beautiful
backdrop. For the next couple of days you can enjoy the many activities of
Timberhead, explore Santa Mission and go for evening canoe safaris to view the
night-blooming water lilies and to spot the evil eyes of the caiman. |

After an exciting jeep ride through the rainforest we arrive
at Shanklands Rainforest Resort where you will enjoy your splendid gingerbread
cottages set upon a hilltop with manicured lawns and panoramic views of the
Essequibo River and it's islands below. Spend the following days exploring the
rainforest and private coves and creeks, kayaking, windsurfing, water-skiing,
or simply relaxing on the golden sand river beaches. |
|
| Next we take a long day trip involving a flight over virgin
rainforest and endless rivers to the majestic Kaieteur Falls, one of Guyana's
gems. At a height of 741ft - five times that of Niagra, Kaieteur is considered
one of the wonders of the world. The fabulous orange Cock of the rock and
Golden Tree Frog are colorful inhabitants of this unique eco-system. On by
plane to Orinduik Falls on the border with Brazil where the water cascades
over steps of jasper. The falls provide a welcome natural massage before your
return flights to Georgetown. |
